It was a magical experience for me the first time I saw a photograph materialize on a sheet of black and white photograph in the dark room. It still is. My day job is technical, and modern. I am a software engineer who provides computing resources for scientific computation. It is natural for me then, to come home and enjoy a respite from the modern age in an analogue sense with my magical darkroom.
I enjoy photographing objects that have been around for a while. They may be worn, or even worn out, but they pique my curiosity when I try to imagine who owned them, or how they were used. I am in my element exploring ruins from 100 or 1000 years ago with my manual focus Nikon.
I prefer to photograph people with a minimum of direction. The main challenge is always to foster a sense of comfort and trust between photographer and subject. I am in my element playing the part of the proverbial fly on the wall.
